8:00 am	Portus I've just finished my registration for Portus:) Snapefest was already full, but I'm on the waiting list.... (From what I read on the forum, that filled up in less than an hour, so at least I don't have to kick myself for waiting an extra couple of days while I figured out whether I could get the time off work or not.) 9:09 pm	Quitting As of today, I have quit smoking. (22 hours and counting) I'm trying the new stop smoking drug, Chantix, and so far so good. Hopefully it keeps working! This is my first serious attempt to quit in years, and I'm determined to make it work this time, so wish me luck! (Comment on this)

2:06 pm	Done! I just sent my Snarry Holidays story off to my betas! (Thank goodness for extensions.) I'm still not totally happy with the ending, but I'm hoping they can offer some suggestions. 1:40 am	The end of my writing vacation Well, since I have to be at work tomorrow, I'm being responsible and and going to bed, even though I'm finally back on a roll after dealing with a bit of a block the last couple of days. I managed to complete a little more than 36 pages, and I feel like I know how I'm going to get to the end of the story, which had been the main reason for my writer's block. All in all, not too bad for 4 days. Now I just need to find a beta and I'll be all set. In other news, I went and saw a local, professional production of Macbeth last night. It had been entirely too long since I'd been to the theater, so I enjoyed it, even if the performance was a bit inconsistent. The same company is doing Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night's Dream early next year, so I may have to check out one or both of those. Some of the actors in Macbeth were very good, so I think it's worth giving that company another try. (Comment on this)

1:01 am	Writing vacation - day 2 Well, I didn't make quite as much progress today, which is a bit frustrating considering that I actually had a couple more hours available to write. However, I have just started page 29, so I guess that really isn't too bad for two days' work. I finally remembered to contact a beta reader; now I just have to keep my fingers crossed that she's still available. I also realized I left a huge plot hole which I had to go back and fix. Unfortunately, to completely fix the plot hole is probably going to make the story even longer. (argh!) I'm trying to figure out a way to not turn this into a full-blown novel, but it just keeps getting longer and longer... One of these days I'll figure out who to write a short story. BTW, I promise these posts won't be a daily event for much longer. I just need a way to release some frustration after struggling with this story all day. (Comment on this)

12:38 am	Writing vacation - day 1 Well, at the end of the first day of my writing mini-vacation, I'm halfway through my sixteenth page of my snarry_holidays story, and I'm not even a third of the way done. I really hope the person I'm writing for meant it when they said they liked long stories! It's really going well so far, but I've yet to actually get to any 'naughty parts', which is what I'm the most worried about writing. Oh, I just remembered that I need to look back at the post snarry_holidays did for people willing to beta. My normal beta is swamped, so I really need to find someone who can check this for me. 12:14 am	Happy Thoughts - tagged by suemonroe The rules are simple. Just create a post about a few things that have made you happy recently. Then tag 8 people and have them post this meme on their journals. 1. I'm taking a 'mental health' vacation from work. This means a 4-day weekend with nothing to do but write! 2. I started my snarry_holidays fic today. 3. I took a few hours today to get my hair cut and colored for the first time since April. There's nothing like having a new haircut. 4. A new account manager was finally hired for my accounts; once she's up to speed, this will hopefully translate into me only having to do my job, instead of my job plus extra. 5. I'm going to see Macbeth on Saturday at The Shakepeare Tavern. 6. I got to see my oldest and best friend for a few hours last weekend. 7. I discovered from my friend that her son, who is severely autistic, is starting to respond a little to treatment and has started talking. 8. We're redecorating our house. (New paint, finally putting up curtains after 7 years, etc.) It's a lot of work, but it's going to look fantastic once we're finished. I always feel guilty for tagging people... 4:12 pm	I've finally figured out a plot for my Snarry Holidays fic! I was starting to panic a bit because I had been drawing a complete blank ever since I got my assignment, but inspiration finally struck this morning as I was driving to a friends house. 5:59 pm	Well, I always swore if I started a fandom only journal I'd actually post in it rather than just lurk, so I'm going to stick by that and actually start posting from time to time. I have to admit, I'm largely quiet online because I lead a fairly quiet life, so not a whole lot happens that's worth posting about:) At the moment, I'm a bit hyper because I just received my Snarry Holidays assignment! I'm a little intimidated since this is the first fic exchange I've ever participated in and I hope I can live up to the other wonderful authors that are participating. I'm even more nervous because while I've been reading slash for a long damn time, it's my first time actually writing it... I hope I haven't gotten in over my head! To add to the craziness, I need to find a beta since one of my betas for my non-slash story won't go near slash, and the other is pretty swamped at the moment so I don't think she'll have time to do anything extra. I remember the Snarry Holiday mods posting something about possibly helping folks to find a beta, so I guess I can go that route if necessary. For the moment, I'm just going to start on the story and worry about the other details once I've figured out what I'm going to write. (Comment on this)
